Roman Catholic Church – Church of the Immaculate Conception
Land was donated for the construction of this church which was then built mainly through subscriptions and donations from the local parishioners, and especially from the Mahony’s.
Built in 1894 overlooking Blarney Castle and the village square it is a prominent, eye-catching, gable-fronted double-height Roman Catholic Church that plays a huge part in the local community.
In 1996 St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, founder of the Missionary Sisters of Charity visited her local order who live in nearby St. Helen’s Convent. During her stay, she visited this very church where she led prayers and said the Rosary before meeting the locals.
The church was completely refurbished in 2015/16.
The next stop of the tour takes us to the above-mentioned convent.
